Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development

The 21st century finds, for the first time in history, a majority of the world’s citizens living in cities and other urban places. As the planet becomes increasingly urbanized – and increasingly warmed by human activity – the need for a more environmentally sustainable form of urban design has never been greater. Read about WSG's involvement as environmental consultant in a new, master-planned city in South Korea set to emerge as a destination for international business and a showcase for green urbanism.

Clean and Safe Energy

Clean and Safe Energy

Meeting the world's energy demands without compromising air quality or contributing to global climate change is a critical issue for both the environment and the economy. WSG represents a wide range of clients working to meet that challenge.

CMC Energy Services, a nationwide pioneer in residential energy conservation, worked with WSG to spread the word about its Home Energy Tune-uP® and other energy-use audits that let homeowners and businesses to cut energy use by as much as 30 percent. KeySpan, one of the largest energy companies in the world, asked WSG to advise its board on climate change issues, evaluate the company's environmental and energy policies, and make recommendations to further enhance its stewardship efforts. WSG also assisted LS Power, a large development, investment and asset management group of companies focused on the power industry. LS Power retained WSG to help it meet environmental regulations and adapt to the many changes in the power industry.

Promoting Green Technology

Time and time again, American ingenuity and technological innovation rise to the occasion in response to challenges facing the environment. WSG is always pleased to assist technology firms whose products and services contribute to cleaner air, cleaner water and a more livable planet.

One such company is RedZone Robotics. RedZone makes robots to go where people can't, including underground to maintain and repair water and sanitation systems. In many communities, these aging systems are under increasing strain and their failures can have serious environmental consequences. When RedZone needed help getting the word out about its products, it turned to WSG.

Another high-tech company, Air Cycle Corp, needed help resolving regulatory issues relating to its business of recycling and safely disposing of spent fluorescent lighting. Fluorescent light bulbs save energy, and that’s a good thing. They also contain small amounts of mercury and require proper disposal at the end of their lives.

WSG also worked with Locus Technologies, an industry leader in Web-based environmental data and information management services, on an initiative to help businesses and government better manage environmental data and information using the Web. WSG identified a number of new applications for Locus' system and introduced the company to key federal and state officials.
