Clean Water and Sanitation: Protecting Our Vital Infrastructure

"We would not be where we are today if not for The Whitman Strategy Group. They opened up a lot of doors for us and helped us get our name out there."

Clean water and sanitation are key issues for sustainable development worldwide. In many cities and communities, aging water and sanitation systems are under increasing strain and their failures can have serious economic and environmental consequences.

Fortunately, advances in technology are making it easier to maintain, repair and improve the efficiency of this vital infrastructure.

RedZone Robotics designs and builds special machines that travel underground to inspect water and wastewater pipes. With a laser scanning system, high-resolution optics and GPS capabilities, RedZone's robots pinpoint the location of pipe problems, show probable places of future problems and bulldoze through obstructions that inhibit flow.

"The information collected provided a detailed picture of the current condition of these systems. Additional information and subsequent inspections may be utilized to estimate the rate of corrosion and consequently, the viable lifespan of the system.

Predicting when an area might experience collapse and putting together a comprehensive preventative maintenance program is the first step to avoid failures and collapses in the future."

RedZone's Responder uses trenchless technology to perform pipe inspection and pipe rehabilitation tasks in interceptor and tunnel pipe.

RedZone’s technology can also play a role in reducing sewer overflows and runoffs after a storm - a major public health and environmental concern.

Accustomed to dealing primarily with clients and contractors, RedZone turned to The Whitman Strategy Group to raise the company's profile with environmental officials. WSG developed a powerful outreach program for RedZone, facilitating meetings with senior-level officials in cities, counties, states and environmental and public health agencies, as well as with stakeholder groups, trade associations and local community groups.

Today, RedZone is growing. Thanks to WSG, more key decision-makers and regulators know the company and its products, and how they can benefit water and sanitation systems, and the environment.
